enjoy the festive season
The holidays are here, and they should be fun—not stressful! If you’re feeling really low, burnt out and stressed then, don’t worry. I’ve got simple strategies to help you enjoy the holidays.
Let’s keep things easy and make this your best holiday season yet!
1. Prioritise Tasks

Make a list of tasks and prioritise them. Sounds simple doesn’t it? When you are stressed out and depressed it can actually be a really big thing to do. Here is what to do if you feel that way:
- Focus on what’s most important.
- It can feel overwhelming to think about everything you need to do, so just focus on what really matters and let go of the rest.
- Write down your top number one task and get it done. Once you start, it is like a snowball affect and you then feel empowered to complete another task.
It’s also important to manage holiday stress by staying off social media. This helps keep your mind healthy and lets you enjoy the season without worrying about what others are doing.
If the festive season is stressing you out or you are alone, looking at others’ curated happy snaps on social media may make you feel worse.

2. Delegate Responsibilities

Don’t try to do everything by yourself. That is way too stressful!
Ask your family and friends for help! If it’s your turn to host Christmas lunch, consider getting someone to clean, help cook, or wrap your gifts. Working together makes things easier and more fun for everyone.
I know you feel like a burden on someone if you ask for their help, but that is simply not true! The right friend will jump in and want to do anything possible to help you feel better and happier. If you are struggling to ask a friend for help then here are some strategies to consider.
Sharing tasks can help you have a smoother and happier holiday, making it feel less stressful for you.
And that’s when my dear friend Jessica took me aside and said, “if you’ll allow me, I can do all of your Christmas shopping for you.” Was this girl for real? And could I cede control to someone else for something so dear to me, the magic of Christmas morning?

3. Set Boundaries

It’s ok to say no to events or activities that cause you stress. Set boundaries to protect your mental health.
- Say no when you need to: It’s perfectly ok to skip events or activities that make you feel stressed.
- Set your boundaries: Protecting your mental health is really important, so don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.
- Choose what’s best for you: Focus on the things that bring you joy instead of added pressure.
- Prioritise your well-being: Remember, your mental health matters more than pleasing everyone else.
- Enjoy your space: Give yourself the gift of time to relax and recharge during the busy season!
Letting boundaries slide can lead to confusion and encourage new expectations and demands among those around you.

4. Schedule Downtime

Make sure to schedule downtime for yourself. Relaxation and self-care are essential during the busy holiday season.

Simplify your plans to reduce stress. Focus on what truly matters and let go of unnecessary obligations.
- Keep it simple: Let’s make your plans easier to handle so you can feel less stressed.
- Focus on what matters: Think about what really means the most to you this season.
- Prioritise your tasks: Pick out the most important things you need to do and give them your attention.
- Let go of extras: Don’t be afraid to drop any tasks that just aren’t necessary right now.
