- Take the first step. Your bravery can lead to new friendships and fun moments, you will not regret it!

- Give your time: Hunt down local volunteer gigs in your area—you never know, you might bump into a new friend who’s just as passionate about helping out as you are!

- Support animals: Volunteer at an animal shelter and enjoy the feel-good therapy of helping furry friends. They can lift your spirits, and you’ll also feel great knowing you’re making a difference in your community.

Start your own holiday traditions to make the season extra special. For example, you could cook a yummy holiday dinner with your favourite foods, like homemade pizza or cookies.
You might also have a cozy movie night with films such as “The Holiday” or “Home Alone”. Or, try making holiday gifts like decorating cookies or creating your own ornaments.
I love watching “The Holiday” each year with my husband. I also host a cocktail party with 5-10 close friends on Christmas Eve. These traditions are not only fun, they make Christmas worth while even when I’m feeling down.

Talking to a therapist can help when you’re feeling lonely and need ways to cope. I can’t stress enough how important it is to find the right person to talk to. If you don’t click with the first counsellor or psychologist, don’t worry—keep looking until you find someone you like.
When I first looked for a psychologist, I didn’t click with the first two but on the third, I did and she was amazing! The therapist was an absolute life saver and someone I credit to finding me new and fun ways to feel in control, safe and stay mentally well throughout my years.
The right therapist can make a big difference, and you can even try online sessions so you don’t even need to drive in that hectic Christmas traffic.
