What To Do When Depressed
When you’re depressed, the way forward isn’t a massive life overhaul. It’s one small, intentional step at a time.
If you’re here quietly searching for answers but haven’t told anyone yet, this is for you.
1. Is This You?
You haven’t said “depression” out loud. You’ve called it stress, tiredness, “just a bad week.” But deep down, you know something’s wrong.
If you’re looking for real steps (not “quick tips” you’ll forget tomorrow) keep reading.
2. My Story: When I Thought I’d Never Get Through It
Years ago, I survived a fatal car accident. I was the only one who walked away alive. The days after felt impossible. I hid my feelings, convinced I’d never feel normal again.
What helped? Tiny actions. Opening the curtains. Walking to the end of my street and back. Telling one person how I really felt. Those steps became the foundation for recovery.
3. First Steps If You Haven’t Told Anyone
If you’re keeping it private right now:
- Write down how you feel
- Move for five minutes
- Let light in, open the curtains!
- Drink a full glass of water
Here’s a mindful way to do it, watch this short video to see how even a simple glass of water can reset your mind.
If you think that’s too simple, ask yourself, why haven’t you done them yet?
4. On the Days You Can’t Face Anything
- Pick one non-negotiable act of care
- Tell yourself, “I just have to start”
- Keep it short. 2 minutes still counts!
See the NHS guide for more signs and treatments.
