2. Set boundaries for overcoming burnout.
Learning to set boundaries is critical to avoiding burnout.
Set your time and energy priorities based on what you can and cannot do. Saying no to unimportant duties and responsibilities allows you to prioritise your preferences.
3. Practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing and meditation, can help you stay in the present moment and reduce stress and anxiety.
An example of a breathing exercise I often do is to take a deep breath through my nose, hold it for 10 seconds, and breathe out through pursed lips. This helps lower your blood pressure and anxiety and brings a feeling of calm.
These techniques can be practised anywhere, making them an easy and accessible way to boost your mental health.

It was beneficial to me when I was burnt out from being overworked. The counselling I received helped me challenge my thought processes and helped me think outside the box.

5. Make changes.
If your burnout is work-related, consider changing jobs or taking a break. A short holiday or a few days at home without work pressure can help you re-focus and reset your mind.
It may be that you love your work. However, it would be best if you had some time off to re-energise.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by financial or relationship problems, seek help from a financial advisor or couples therapist.
Burnout can also come from emotional labour, such as parenting. As a mum to a toddler, I have been burnout in the last couple of years however have caught it early enough to put these strategies in place to lift my mood.
I always ask for help when I need it, and I never think I’m wiser than I am. Reaching out for help, even just for relief from parenting for an hour, can make such a difference to my mental health.
